Coach Speak is a talent development company that primarily serves coaches and those who want to become coaches. For those who are either considering joining the profession or are already in and looking to move up the ladder, the Podcasts tab is a great place to start. There you will find interviews from athletic directors, compliance officials, agents, as well as coaches from many sports and levels, each giving valuable insights on the journey to become a successful head coach. While you might be tempted to skip that hockey coach episode because you’re a football coach, resist the temptation. That coach is likely to offer great tips that would apply to all coaches, not just the ones on the ice.
Additionally, Coach Speak offers a professional development program designed to help you improve your communication skills and influence. Almost everyone can improve the manner in which they speak and work with others. We can help you identify your behaviors plus the behaviors of others and use that information to become a more effective and efficient communicator. This easy to understand program can be learned in four hours or less and mastered with very little practice without breaking the bank. To learn more, click the Development tab.
So who is Coach Speak? Coach Speak was founded by me, David “Doc” Hancock. I spent nearly 30 years working in the private sector, with most of that time in a Fortune 100 corporation. I’m a former athletic trainer (hence the nickname) experienced in talent development, leadership, sales, management, marketing, purchasing and human resources. When my son declared that he wanted to become a basketball coach, my natural inclination was to see what development opportunities existed for aspiring coaches. Outside of an annual conference and a couple of small organizations, there wasn’t much out there. What I found seemed to be a great start; however, they only reached a couple of hundred aspiring basketball coaches. And what about the other sports? There are tens of thousands of coaches (and those who wish to be) that need more support than what is currently available. I can’t help you with x’s and o’s or base running fundamentals. I will, however, provide you with other tools to help you be the best coach you can be.
